Dasvandh

Postby khalsa4eva » Sun Oct 09, 2005 4:38 am

Waheguru ji ka khalsa waheguru ji ki fateh

My question is about Dasvandh. Do you give 10% of your weekly earning's to charity and is there certain cause's it has to go to i.e. the Sangat or is any charity to help the needy acceptable? Also if you are not getting anywhere spiritually and don't follow Gurmat by the word will your dasvandh have any value to your jeevan? Any Gurbani quotes be helpful. Thanks in advance.

He must earn an honest living with the ten nails of his hand and bring that money home. He who then gives one tenth of these honest earnings to the Guru will be praised the world over.

Dasvandh is a gift from Guru Sahib as it enables us to realize what he has given us, we mortals get too caught up in the web of Kaljug and forget the Khalsa’s duty of looking after the poor and needy. Dasvandh should be given to the most needy causes at the time, in the present era being the families and children of all the Shaheeds from the last 20 years. As Guru Sahib tells us above, to follow Gurmat is to obey his hukams of earning a living and then giving from your earnings. There have been very blessed Gurmukhs who gave 90% dasvandh and kept only 10% for themselves, these are far and few but have set examples for us that Guru Jee gives us everything we can certainly take out 10% if not more to help those less fortunate and at the same time obtain Guru Jee’s blessing. It is not only monetary dasvandh that Gursikhs give but also dasvandh of time ie.24hours in a day equals 2 and a half hours for yourself at amrit vela. If we do both then not only is our dasvandh accepted but we will also start to receive Guru Sahib’s blessings.
